Playleaders’s Blog page
I have been the senior play leader at Gargunnock Playgroup since 2003. I have been involved in the Playgroup and Toddler group in the village since my own children were born, now 22 years ago, and served on the committee several times in a variety of roles.
In 1999 I was given the opportunity to study part time for the HNC in Childcare and Education and did it mainly out of interest having 3 small children. It transpired that this proved very useful as it gave me the required qualification to apply for the Senior Playleader role in Playgroup when it became available. Since then there has been increased recognition of the importance of Early Years and the qualification requirements for my role have increased. In 2008 I achieved the SVQ4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development to meet the necessary requirements but subsequently the bar increased requiring all Lead Practitioners to hold a BA in Childhood Practice. I’m pleased to say that this has now been achieved but I’ve been gripped by the study bug and have signed up for another 2 years of study and the intention of achieving the honours degree.
